The Legend Behind the Honey
Madhuraiyyan โ
the man who redefined
beekeeping in South India.
In the lush forests of the Western Ghats, where the air carries the scent of wild flowers and the hills of Kanyakumari meet Kerala's misty ridges, one man spent his life listening to the bees. From the 1960s until 2018, Madhuraiyyan was not just a beekeeper โ he was a pioneer, a mentor, and a quiet revolutionary.

Marthandam & Surrounding Villages
Beekeeping in the region was started by Dr. Spencer Hatch at the YMCA Marthandam campus in 1924. Unlike artificial bee cultivation, the bees are wild and hive frames are placed in forest areas. The Marthandam Beekeepers Co-operative Society, founded in 1960 with just 25 members, has grown to 1,400 member beekeepers across the forest regions of Kanyakumari district.
